This is the song that we decided to choose for our song choice. Initially we weren't really sure on which genre to decide from and so we had to narrow down and short list potential songs as well as artists or bands. We then thought the easiest way in which to do this would be to first pick a genre, our top three where Indie pop, Dubstep and Hiphop. During discussions amongst ourselves we came to an agreement to do Dubstep because of the base tracks that we heard for a few songs, its also very fresh and young and many people are big fans of the dubstep genre especially since artists such as Katy B, Example, Skream and Magnetic man provide music of this particular genre.
Above is the original music video for Shot yourself in the foot again. I really liked the video and thought it illustrated the lyrics in a clever way. The song is based on a relationship and the whole situation of a boyfriend spending a night with his friends rather than go home to a birthday meal his girlfriend prepared for him. At the beginning it shows the girlfriend making dinner and wrapping up presents to surprise him but we get shots in between of the boyfriend with his mates down a club, drinking, laughing and dancing. This contrasts with the girlfriend as shes angry and shows signs of frustration through throwing away all the food she made and packing his clothes and chucking them outside the front door. This video shows the couple as a 'typical' relationship where the guy doesn't really seem to care unlike the girl who's emotional and gets upset easily.
In comparison our video will be different from the original because we are focusing on 'bad situations' in a way we are trying to create a much more visual understanding of the lyrics by reading behind the lines. We are intending to show a girlfriend and boyfriend going through normality at the beginning which means getting ready for a day/evening out with their friends. Props such as photographs will be in the shots so the audience know that they are in a relationship. As the meet and converse for a little while they will both go their separate ways. The girl will be chilling with her friends, drinking, dancing and having a laugh and as for a boyfriend well he will be at the skate park and hanging down at Briklane with his mates taking it easy. To resemble the lyrics we are going to show different shots of The girl with different boys and have the boy with different girls so that it insinuates that both people in a relationship can mess up and make wrong decisions. For the chours we are planning to have different people singing it, different face per 3/4 words at a time this is to show that even though we have actors in our music video that relationships breakdown all over the world and may affect allot of different people.
