Skills development

I believe that this particular production within media studies was much more difficult than that of AS. The main reason is because through AS our task was to make an Thriller opening sequence with encouraged us to tell a story in a way that would make people want to watch more. However, for a music video it lasts for about minutes and in that time you are not obliged to tell a story but to promote the artists and his or her image and values. This is much more difficult because we are also limited to the amount of props and equipment. I therefore decided that i would approach this planning stage different because of previous problems that arised in my AS project. My plan was to gain all the groups ideas together right at the beginning, however extravagant and 'unrealistic' they seemed and to work with what we had to create an effective music video. My group initially had over 20 different ideas and so it was hard trying to narrow them down into one single narrative we wanted to show. Along the way we stumbled across some problems but we used our initiative and the support of media teachers to overcome them and try and make a good music video plan through extra research and planning techniques. I then thought that we should take trips to see our location and possible places that we could go to and film parts of our music video. Lots of research and sending out emails to inquire about using  venues was necessary aswell due to having a deadline approaching and needing to ask for permission. Another way my process of planning was different to last year because my group allocated certain roles to people in the group, to enhance our strengths and through this we also helped one another through our weaknesses. We also made edit videos were we put some of our footage together in ways that we might want to use them in our final production of our music video, this has helped us plan further shots that we need and to ask for help from teachers if possible. This was particularly helpful because it makes it easier when it comes to editing our video as we know what works well and what isn't really a typical convention for a music video.
