Question 4

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

We where given an opportunity to watch our videos at the cinema. It was very exciting to see our own music video on the big screen....
We record the audience reaction:

The audience reaction overall was positive and showed that people like our music video. After speaking to people after cinema one thing that kept coming up was our chorus. People mentioned "your use of cuts where very effective in meeting the beat". As a group we where very proud of this but it did make me feel like other elements of our video would have come across as 'dull' compared to the chorus.

On vimeo our video recieved 75views in the past, I do not think that it is a large number, but i do feel that the number does reflect an interest in our video. It was ranked 34th with videos from previous years, I would say that the video was successful Interms of the views on vimeo. After seeing this It was clear that we had some improvements to make to our video... and there might be some things we could change in order to create a better.

Adam was very please with our chorus and our use of reaction. He also mentioned how it was an inspiration to his own group. This was something I found very positive, as I felt that we Adam's reaction towards our chorus was pleasing because I felt that this was the hardest part of editing in terms of our video. So i was pleased that he liked out chorus. In Adam's words; " your shot variation was DOPE!" I also asked him for some constructive/ negative feedback... He went on to say our artist came across as "lazy". Although this was the 'look' we tried to give our artist and listening to feedback i was aware that it could come across that our artist was lazy or uninterested. If we could improve the video we would discuss a change to his facial expressions and have him move around on the screen a lot more.

One thing that Shannon said stood out in our video was 'the cuts to the beat. This feedback made me pleased because it reminded me that our group stuck with the conventions of a music video. Shannon liked our shot variation and use of jumpcuts. I felt that we filmed a lot of shots, with Shannons feedback i feel like we could have possibly take the time to use other shots in our video although i do feel if we used any more it would confuse the audience. For our critism, our artist's performance came up again... This is something that worried me and i felt that we could have enhanced his performance by giving him feedback during his performance.

My own feedback narrowed down how i felt about our video briefly. I do feel that our video represented all the points that we wanted to put across. and I felt if we could change anything, it would be taking into consideration the way the artist reacted to the camera.

Nathan's feed back presented the points ;  That our chorus was effective and memorable, one point that stood out from his feedback was how he felt even though there where many attempts to use a similar edit for their chorus. Nathan and other peers felt that our chorus was the most memorable and well constructed compared to the other groups, This feel back made me very happy hand made me feel more comfortable with the outcome of our video. He also mentioned how our scenery and graffiti was something he liked... He went on to stay that if we used more dynamic shots in order to present our genre more. I felt that this is something that i would take in consideration is I was given a chance to fix or edit something about our video.

Feedback for Ancillary Products:

To get some feed back, I posted an image of my final Digipak and Advertisement onto my Facebook page and asked some of my friends to comment and give me some feed back...I asked people to be honest and not hold back any negative comments they had.

"Looks professional. The colours don't clash and doesn't take the attention away from the images or the information. However, I do think that maybe there's a little too much going on, on the left hand side, it seems squashed slightly?"
I felt that this reaction reflected my first thoughts about my digipak. I am pleased that she felt my colours dis not clash and take away attention from the images because this is something that worried me when I made my final product. I also agree with her comments  of things looking too 'squashed'. This comment made me look at my work in a different prospective, this lead to me thinking that maybe i could take out some elements of the advertisement and make it more simple to bring more attention to the album that i am promoting.

"really like the colours you used. looks bare like them party/club posters. looks sick. just would say you could have used a picture as a background instead of it being black. otherwise pretty sick :)"
I was very pleased to get some male feedback on my digipak because i wanted to get an understanding on how effective my use of colour is. He said "really like the colours you used." This comment made me smile because I had many doubts about the colours that i used. I was also happy that he meantioned "party/club posters" because this was the sort of convention that i was following. I done this because after research I found our most dubstep advertisements connote fun and party scenes. Although he recommed using an image instead of a black background, i feel that if i did this there would be too much on my advert. This is because i already feel there is too much going on already and anymore additions would create distraction from the main reason of the advertisement.

I think it looks like one of those posters that you see hanging on the street ! The splash of colours makes my feel so funky and ready to dance! I guess it reflects this type of music that your trying to promote? I quite like the layout but yeah it seems as if there's too much of everything. And the font that says "Guardian" and "Daily Mail" could have been different - this one doesnt look professional - but now im just being picky :P Over all WELL DONE ! XXX
The critism i recieved in this i felt was very detailed and gave me a lot to think about. It was interesting how she mentioned that 'posters that you see hanging on the street', this is because i felt when I started research on the dubstep genre I thought of posters that you see when you walk down the street. Interestingly enough I have seen posters stuck on the walls of bricklane. This wold be a perfect place to promote our artist and stick+ sell our advertisement because this is where we would be most likely to bump into our target audience.  She does mention that she thinks 'there is too much of everything' This is something that i would also agree with, I think there are too many splash graphics, and I think removing a few would Settle the excitement on the page. I do also agree with changing the font of 'Gaurdian' and 'Daily mail', but  I also disagree because I think if i use too many fonts it would take away the meaning of the genre and confuse the audience.

In terms of my audience feedback i am very pleased with the feedback. It has offered me a chance to see what people think about my work. The advise and comments are something i would look at if i wanted to go back and create changes because i feel they were very helpful and insightful.

Evaluation of Finished Production Work: Question 3

Evaluation Question 3

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

We had many media technologies and resources that were available to us during the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages of our project.

During the construction of our media production (music video), we used state of the art JVC video camera's which recorded our footage and stored it directly onto small memory cards that were assigned to my group and I before we began filming.

JVC Camera

We used similar memory cards to these
Within my group, I was the main actor in our music video, therefore, I spent more time on camera than I did behind the camera so I didn't necessarily get as much time to film footage, however, the times I did get the opportunity to record some footage I took full advantage of this and began to really pick up on how to effectivly handle and use the camera correctly when mounted on a tripod or holding it in one hand. In addition to this, I also got a lot of opportunity to view the recorded footage of me lip syncing for our base track, this really helped me see where I was going wrong or what I could improve regarding the timing of my lip movement as well as my positioning on screen. Below, are a couple of images taken from when my group and I were recording base tracks in Brick Lane (our main location).

Here I'm being recorded for one of the base tracks.

In this image, I'm helping out my group with the adjustment of the camera, which at times, we found a bit tricky but once we got used to frequently using the JVC camera, we had no problems with it at all.

Evaluation Question 3

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?

We where very lucky to be able to work with the colleges mac computers. These gave us an opportunity to work with different forms of media and to access different technologies.

Wordle: Untitled

I used blogger to different aspects of my project, this site helped me short-list my ideas by reflecting back on older posts to compare and discard old ideas. When using blogger I was enabled to develop my ideas by posting different forms of planning through multimedia, posting; images, videos, presentations and loads more. By being able to post these different forms of media, i was able to present to you my understanding of media and how it can be used to present and develop ideas. Blogger was also a place for my to add my final products for you to mark. I used it for my Research, Planning and evaluation.
Just as I did in my research, google impacted my planning and my evaluation. I used Google to gain images for inspirations and to also get links to sites. Google impacted my products because it presented me with different ideas, and different ways to develop, produce and improve my work.

I also used YouTube on all areas of my project. It showed me the different types of music videos, it showed me examples of the way different shots can work together. In my evalutation I used YouTube to compare the different ways which i presented my music video in terms of Camera shots, transitions, sound effects.  Learnt that many music videos edit to the beat,  with research and planning using Youtube, i was able to produce a video using this edit.
Final Cut pro was a very important technology in mainly the construction  of my music video and also in my planning. I used the program to edit together videos. During planning I used final cut to create an animatic (below),  Final cut allowed me to create a moving sequence from still images, I added the soundtrack of the video we would be creating. Using the program allowed me to experiment with different edits and see which would work and which would are difficult. By doing this through all our planning it made it easier create a rough cut and to save time when creating our final product because we where more aware how to use the program. I learnt how to lip sync and use base tracks to create our music video.

How i used Final Cut to edit (screen recording from viola)

Animatic

Above are some screenshots and a video of my work on final cut. this was all recorded by the use of a program called viola, The program allowed me to take shots of me working and of my work, I used all of this as part of my planning and also for my evaluation, just as I am showing you now.

I used a flip cam to record our animatic and also used it to show our filming processes with the worries and the struggles that we faced during the filming process.

I used Prezi in my planning and my evaluation. I created a prezi to present our pitch to our teachers. My using prezi our presentation was organised and we where able to get feeback from out teachers, which we recorded on our flipcam. This helped in the planning process because we would be able to get an understanding of what would be challenging for us.

The creation of my digipak was mainly done around photoshop. Photoshop allowed me to edit and add colour to our digipak. We where given a brief tutorial on hwo to use photoshop although I struggled I managed to use youtube to find some tutorials on ways to create different effects. Photoshop quarked and added character to my construction of ancillary products.

We where very lucky to be able to use the college's new state of the art video cameras. We used these with memory cards. Our group also used the lighting attacted to the to of the camera, we used this when we where filming at night. The light made it clearer to the camera to pick up the image when we filmed in the dark. We used the cameras to record the base tracks of our music video. The videos where transferred using a Video drive which allowed us a change to be able to edit at any mac Pc in the college.

Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product (Video) and Ancillary texts (Digipak and advertisements)?

From my lessons I learnt that a successful music video will make clear visual links between it and its ancillary products. There are many ways in which my video does this successfully and ways in which it fails to link with its ancillary texts link.

The main message that we tried to present with our products was our artist's image as a Londoner. London is a very multicultural city, with people from different races, and we wanted to appeal to a majority of these. One way in which our Video and Digipak link is the representation we put across through different connotations. Our video was mainly filmed in Bricklane which is a multicultural part of the East End, Bricklane presents a lot of different types of music, and styles (clothing and shops). By filming in Bricklane we were able to present a familiar place for many of our target audience but also get a reaction from new audience members.

Our music video presents the multicultural Bricklane through the scenery (colourful ) as the backdrops...Below are some pictures (Prezie) that where taken during the production of our music video. The pictures present the many different graffiti backdrops we filmed in-front of, although many were not used in the final edit of our music video.

These linked in with our Digipak because of the use of colours. Our use of colours were multicultural just as the video, these are all typical of the dubstep genre. My Digipak has a link with the colours that are seen in the colourful backdrops of the music video. I think that my video is successful in presenting our artist in both the Digipak and the video as a Urban Londoner. I also feel that my products successfully link with together, this a is a positive because the audience would be aware of the Digipak when they watch the video and the other way around.

Another link would be the font used on my digipak the font i used is almost 'Graffiti' like. This is something that could be linked to Bricklane because you would find a lot of graffiti there. Many artists graffiti on the walls, the graffiti is what partly makes bricklane the place it is.

My font:
Bricklane (Location of music video):

One final way that I linked my Video with my Digipak is by using my artist as a central figure in both products.  By doing this I was trying to promote my artist and his image, because he is not yet known by is audience. His afro would be something that is a key factor in remembering him.
